View Point at Buckhorn Creek Wedding | Mary & Jeremey

This beautiful wedding in Greenville, SC battled thunderstorms all day but that wasn’t going to stop this couple from having their dream wedding at the View Point at Buckhorn Creek.

Before we jump into the details of the day of their wedding at the View Point at Buckhorn Creek, let’s back it up to over 10  years ago and see the events that led Mary and Jeremey to tie the knot.

They met in 2009 through a mutual friend at a party while they were both living in Chattanooga, TN. While they were hanging out in the back yard, Mary’s friend stepped in dog poop, and had to borrow shoes from the hostess. An auspicious start to any relationship, you could say…While her friend went to find clean shoes, Mary met Jeremey and they talked for a while in the house before she and her friend left the party. But as fate would have it they had to turn back because her friend left her shoes! When they got back to the party Jeremey took a giant leap by stopping Mary to ask for her phone number. I’m assuming she said yes because a few days later they met up for a date.

Fast forward to 8 years later for New Years Eve weekend 2017-18 on a vacation to Myrtle Beach. They planned to stroll the empty beach, relax in their beachfront hotel, and drink champagne while watching fireworks. It doesn’t really get more romantic than that. However, what they didn’t expect was the cold front moving through the area that dropped the temperature into the teens! But, that night they braved the cold and went for a walk down the beach to find a bar for drinks before ringing in the New Year. They found the bar, but unfortunately it was closed for the off season so they started slowly walking back to their hotel. It was at this point, during this beautiful moonlit stroll on the beach, that Jeremey got down on one knee and proposed to Mary. The rest of the night they celebrated by drinking champagne, watching fireworks, and pretending it was all for them!

In mid-Summer 2018, Mary reached out to me to photograph their engagement photos and we met up at Looking Glass Falls. I could tell right away they were a perfect match and was so excited when they asked me to shoot their wedding and Mary’s bridal portraits.

October 19th, 2019 they were finally married after 10 whole years of being together! Family and friends came in from around the country to celebrate with them for their beautiful ceremony and reception at the View Point at Buckhorn Creek. October in Greenville, SC is usually pretty ideal weather but the forecast for this particular day called for rain, and lots of it. When my second shooter Jordan and I arrived, HGC Event Design was already hard at work making sure everything would look perfect and be as waterproof as possible. I jumped right in to capturing details of the dress and Mary’s jewelry while everyone was arriving. Once everyone was dressed and ready we did a few first look reveals.

Mary’s mother Priscilla helped her to get into her dress and jewelry and made sure she was radiant before stepping out of the bridal suite. Her bridesmaids were the first to see her in her dress and their reactions really speak for themselves, a mixture of excitement and happy tears. Next up, her father John came to see his daughter and it’s safe to say there wasn’t a dry eye in the room when he hugged Mary and they had some father daughter time. Finally, the big reveal, the make or break moment, the question on everyone’s mind; was Jeremey going to cry when he saw Mary? The answer is YES. You could see the joyful emotions clear on his face as he took in his beautiful bride standing in front of him for the first time in her dress.

After these first looks and their formal photos was the lovely ceremony officiated by my friend Ken Bowers of Upstate Wedding Officiant. They exchanged rings, and had their first kiss and then we took all of the family photos under the cover of the pavilion. By the way, using the pavilion at View Point at Buckhorn Creek makes for the perfect backup ceremony location if the weather gets a little too crazy! Then it was on to dinner and their reception. Despite the rain and cold weather, this was one of the most lively and fun receptions I’ve ever been a part of. Jumping Jukebox kept everyone on the dance floor singing along all night (I’m sure the open bar with Mary and Jeremey’s signature cocktail of Sailor Jerry and Hot Apple Cider had a little to do with that too)!
