-Jessica is most looking forward to the first look. She knows that it’ll be a big day and she’s very excited that she’ll get to have a big reveal and then fill me in on all the events of her morning. I’m most looking forward to the first look and seeing so many people we know get to mingle and meet and all be in one place to celebrate.

-Jessica wanted a spooky dramatic woods themed wedding. Unfortunately for Jessica, I requested that we add a little brightness for a celebratory, not necessarily where Hansel and Gretel went. We settled on a mix of dark colors with bright accent points to brighten the mood. There was no overall theme in mind.

-We wanted a venue that nobody would have to drive to after the ceremony, that way nobody lost steam before the reception. Zen was perfectly located downtown for going out afterwards, and the ability to have both the reception and the ceremony in the same place was a win for us.

-We both really like the industrial feel in the reception. We feel like the exposed brick and expose ceiling gives the venue a warm and decorated feel, without feeling like we need to decorate the whole venue from scratch. We also very excited to use the greenery wall with a neon sign for our photo booth wall.

-I think we are both incredibly excited for White Wine & Butter, the caterer. We loved the food when we did a taste test and it was all delicious. I’m also sure that we will love the drapery across the ceiling and the floral arch provided by Laura Michelle.

-The food is a lot of our favorite foods that we enjoy. As opposed to a central theme across the food, we went with foods that were comforting to us. The drinks don’t really have anything special. HOWEVER! One special thing we have done for the drinks are we have had two custom made coozies made for our wedding. We have a mint coozie with both of our dogs and a lavender coozie with both of our cats. We’re excited to have them incorporated in a way.

-We are really hoping to WOW the guests when they enter the reception room. We’re hoping the custom “O.M.G. WEDDING” neon sign on the greenery wall, along with the drapery, soft seating, and industrial feel of the room make the whole room pop.

  • What are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?

Seeing all of our worlds colliding – family, friends, loved ones!

  • What inspired your wedding décor? Did you have a theme in mind?

I wanted colors that felt happy but not too bold (light blue bridesmaid dresses, peachy/pink flowers)

  • Why did you pick the venue(s) that you chose? We really liked the space at Zen and how it’s flexible to be used based on your needs.

We were interested in a venue with an outdoors option, and Zen was perfect because it has a garden but if the weather doesn’t cooperate, we have a fallback with the Lotus lounge inside and we won’t be compromising anything.

  • What is your favorite feature about your wedding venue?

It has special little spaces like the garden with the edison lights, the dance floor with the chinese lanterns, and the seating upstairs where any shy, non-dancers can hang out and people-watch!

  • Is there any particular vendor that you are really excited to have for your day?

You 🙂 And one of my friends from college decided to go to beauty school after leaving AppState and started her own hair/makeup business for weddings. I’m excited to support her business and have someone I like hanging out with us for several hours getting us beautified!

  • Tell us about the food/drink at your wedding.

Smoke on the Water southern food. It was important to us to do family style food because Dave’s brother and his wife did that at their wedding a few years ago (she is Chinese and family style meals are customary for events in China!) and their wedding was so much fun and the food was stress free – no waiting in buffet lines, no running out of food at the buffet, and the family style encouraged the people at each table to socialize and have something to talk about/engage with.

  • Which part of your wedding did you want to WOW your guests?

Open bar and our DJ! We plan to party!
