Average Cost and Size of Wedding in Greenville, SC

The average starting cost of a wedding in Greenville, SC is roughly $34,000 which is slightly above the national average of $29,286. The average guest count of a Greenville, SC wedding is 80-100. The cost and guest count of your wedding will dictate many different aspects of your wedding plans, so it’s important to get them nailed down early.

Pro Tip: Have a conversation about your wedding budget early, and include anyone who is contributing to it. Once you have a set budget try to prioritize what’s most important to you. Then, break it down into how much you’re willing to spend in each category (i.e., Venue, Catering & Bar, Photography, etc.). That way you have some sort of idea of what you can spend as you start interviewing vendors. And if you’re confused and overwhelmed about how much to allocate, find a good Wedding Planner to help you.

Marriage Requirements in Greenville, SC

One thing that confuses couples is how to legally get married. You have to legally have a marriage license in your hands before you can get married.

Here are the current steps to getting legally married in Greenville, SC:

  1. 2-4 weeks before your wedding, apply for a marriage license by visiting any county probate court in South Carolina. Greenville County is currently accepting applications online. Do not wait until a couple of days before your wedding to apply for your marital license in case there are any mishaps.
  2. Complete the Marriage License Worksheet.
  3. When the Probate Court emails your application to you, review it carefully. If everything looks correct, sign it, and send it back to the Probate Court.
  4. Wait on the Probate Court to mail your license to you. There will be 3 copies for you, your fiance, and your minister or Officiant to sign. You will keep one copy. The DHEC and Probate Court copies need to be mailed back to the Probate Court within 15 days of your wedding.

Be sure to read all of the instructions on the Greenville County Probate Court’s website carefully.

Pro Tip: A certified copy of your marriage license is not sent to you after your wedding. You will need certified copies in order to change your name. Go ahead and request that the Probate Court send you 3 certified copies (currently $5 + $0.25 per page) when you send your signed license.
